Mr. King is the owner of J.P. King & Associates, Inc., a registered investment advisory firm located in Walnut Creek, California. The firm, consisting of three professionals and two support staff, serves a clientele of approximately 150 executives, professionals and business owners. He is also a registered principal of Investment Architects, Inc., a FINRA broker-dealer with headquarters in Petaluma, California.
Jim King, born in 1946, has been involved in the financial planning industry since joining Equitec Securities Company as a branch sales manager in March, 1979. He left Equitec to form J.P. King & Associates in September, 1981. He was associated as a registered principal with Financial Planners Equity Corp. (FPEC) from November, 1981 until December, 1987, serving as President and CEO of FPEC from August, 1984 through March, 1985. Prior to Equitec, he was a management consultant with KPMG, the international accounting firm, and a banking officer with Crocker Bank. Still earlier, he was an educator and Peace Corps Volunteer.
Mr. King's educational qualifications include both Bachelor of Arts (1969) and Master of Business Administration (1977) degrees from Stanford University, and the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) credential from the College for Financial Planning (1984). He has also been an instructor and guest lecturer in the Graduate Program in Financial Planning at Golden Gate University. He has accumulated over fifteen hundred hours of relevant continuing education courses over the past twenty-nine years. In 2004, he completed the Myers Briggs Type Indicator Professional Qualifying Program.
Jim has been active in business and community affairs for many years. He served from 1987 through 1992 as a National Director, including two years as an Officer and member of the Executive Committee, of the International Association for Financial Planning (IAFP), predecessor of the Financial Planning Association (FPA). He previously served five years on the Board of the East Bay Chapter of the IAFP, including being its President and Chairman. For nine years (1998-2007) he was a Director of the East Bay Community Foundation, serving as Chair from 2005-2007.
Mr. King has been quoted in numerous publications, and has appeared on radio and T.V. From 1996 through 2002 he was named by WORTH magazine as one of the Best Financial Advisers in America.

Scott Horton is Principal and lead advisor at J.P. King & Associates, Inc. With over 15 years of financial advisory experience he provides comprehensive wealth management services to our private clients.
Prior to joining J.P. King & Associates, Inc. Mr. Horton was a Vice President, Senior Account Executive with Fidelity Investments Private Client Group. He was responsible for managing over 550 high net worth client relationships exceeding $1 Billion in total assets. He specialized in portfolio management and retirement planning services for his clients. Mr. Horton spent 12 years working at Fidelity Investments. Before Fidelity he was employed as an Account Executive by Morgan Stanley Dean Witter.
Mr. Horton, a native Californian born in 1972, grew up for the most part in Walnut Creek, CA. During his youth he spent time overseas in locations such as Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, and London. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Managerial Economics from the University of California at Davis, and a Master of Science degree in Finance from Golden Gate University. He also completed a graduate certificate in Financial Planning at Golden Gate University. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner.
Scott lives in Danville, CA with his wife Candice, and two children, Taylor and Spencer. Outside of work, you would likely find him spending time outdoors. He enjoys golf and cycling. He has a passion for music and one of his hobbies is playing guitar. Scott also serves as a volunteer board member for the Green Valley Recreation and Parks District, where he acts as Treasurer.

Nancy Gire is our Director of Operations. She is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Financial Planning Practitioner, who joined the firm in January 2008.
Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1948, Nancy has been migrating westward ever since, attending college in Chicago, then moving to California in 1979. Her career in financial services began in 1983 as a staff accountant in Oakland. After attending advanced tax and accounting classes for two years, Nancy joined Armanino, McKenna LLP, and served as senior tax specialist with the firm for over five years. She opened her own tax and financial advisory practice in 1994, and immediately began her study of comprehensive financial planning, in order to provide more complete and valuable services to her clients. In 1996 Nancy joined Strategic Advisory Services, Inc., an Orinda-based registered investment advisory firm, where she provided financial planning and investment advisory services to approximately fifty individuals, professionals, executives, and business owners for ten years.
Nancy received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Chicago in 1969 in philosophy and psychology, and a Master's degree in Education from Chicago State University in 1975. After moving to California, Nancy attained her Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in January of 1994, her Master's degree in Taxation from Golden Gate University in 1996, and her Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) credential in 1999. Nancy also created and presented educational seminars in tax planning and new tax law developments within her accounting firm and for local professional organizations. Still earlier, Nancy was an educator in the Chicago Public School system, working with gifted, learning disabled, and emotionally disturbed children.
Nancy is a member of the East Bay Chapter of the Financial Planning Association, where she has organized the annual community outreach effort for the Salvation Army holiday toy drive for the past seven years. She's also an active member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants, and utilizes her skills as an educator to serve as a "CPA Ambassador" for the AICPA, the national professional accounting organization, in its efforts to provide financial literacy education to high school and college students. Nancy teaches several of these literacy classes each year. In addition, she is a popular participant on annual tax and financial planning call-in programs for consumer questions for KRON-TV, as well as several other television and radio stations, and local business reporters.

Jackie joined J.P. King & Associates, Inc. in February, 1996 after more than twelve years of working for major brokerage firms. In her nearly twenty-five years of experience, she has developed a deep understanding and appreciation of client aspirations and needs. She is very knowledgeable of the policies and procedures of the organizations we work with, and is most helpful in assisting clients in the logistical aspects of dealing with our institutional partners. Clients constantly tell us how much they appreciate her efforts on their behalf.
She lives with her family and two cats in nearby Concord, CA, where she enjoys gardening on the weekends and sharing holidays with her children and grandchildren

Jessica joined the firm in September, 2007. Initially planning to fill in until her predecessor returned from a leave of absence, Jessica became a permanent employee in December, when that individual did not return. She is responsible for assisting in a number of areas, including Communications of all types, preparation of periodic reports, ordering supplies and managing vendors. She also answers our phones, so it will likely be her voice you will first hear when you call.
Jessica lives in Walnut Creek, CA with her family.
